While winter is still firmly entrenched in the Pacific Northwest, gardeners from across the region recently ditched their winter gear in favor of rain boots, a hot cup of Seattle coffee & 5 full days of Spring! There inside the comforts of the Washington State Convention Centre, the Northwest Flower & Garden Show came alive with acres of gardens & displays. A vital burst of spring enthusiasm. Here the horticulturally inspired, collaborated to help recharge our batteries. Time to ‘Power Up.’
This garden designed by Sue Goetz of the Creative Gardener evoked spring through saturated colour. I enjoyed the deep purple contrasting with the chartreuse green. It is one of my favorite colour combinations and it was a real joy to see how Sue played with colours & textures to best amplify this theme. There was something for everyone in my house with this garden.
Colour: I get weak for purple.
Whimsy: have you spotted Mario? His green pipe inspired planters? You certainly can’t miss that spiky ball/allium metal sculpture. My kids sure spotted them all!
Modern appeal: The mixing of edibles with ornamentals throughout the plantings , the mix of modern architecture & collectible rusty art had even my husband nodding along.
There were many take home ideas scattered through out this garden. So simple, bold & fun! Many of these themes will find their way into my gardens this spring.
