Are you Ready for a Little Sparkle?

It’s Black Friday, and instead of getting lost in the commercial nonsense, I’m taking the day to do a little seasonal planning! ┬áSorting out my Christmas baking, scheduling the assorted Breakfast with Santa’s and school recitals with the kids. Planning seasonal adventures that are sure to tickle and delight each one of my cherry cheeked cherubs!

These are the moments that matter. Not the toys or the clothes that will soon fade from their memories, but the time spent together. They will carry these memories forever. This is where the magic of Christmas is born. In the sparkle of a twinkling light, in the warmth of hot chocolate between the hands, and in the laughter of a child.

For my family a visit to VanDusen Botanical Gardens Festival of Lights has become a favorite Christmas tradition . Nothing gets us ready for the holidays more than getting all bundled up for this unique garden walk. Each year the garden hosts over 1.4 million twinkling lights creating an illuminated garden, full of wonder and whimsy. With tulips made from recycled water bottles and trees with boughs literally decked with bulbs of jolly, you will instantly be transformed into a sparkling wonderland of lights.

The Dancing Lights on Livingstone Lake is the centre piece of the Festival of Lights. Illuminating the night in a symphony of music and colour, the lake comes alive every half hour with one of two unique and entertaining shows.

The kids can get their kicks controlling the lights while they interact with the Sparkling Spruce, or take an enchanted walk in the Gingerbread Wood. Santa will be on scene checking his list, and visiting with the children in his Living Room. The Community Choir will be there adding to the Christmas charm, along with familiar sights like the Make-A-Wish Candle Grotto where you can light a candle for the kids. This year the Vancouver Lego Club is partnering with the Make-A-Wish foundation to create a Winter Village display made entirely of Lego!

Whether its an evening out with the kids or a romantic date night, the Festival of Lights is a Vancouver tradition that is not to be missed. It all starts here. With a sparkle in the night, bright enough to light the imagination of any child, or child-at-heart.
