Earth Week! You dig?

Pinterest

Earth Week has officially kicked off across the country! Here in Port Coquitlam, BC we started bright and early with our hands in the dirt. Compost, that is.
The city put on a great tutorial display to help teach the do’s and don’t of household composting. Where it starts…
And what it becomes! They were also giving away bags of compost and kitchen compost pails for the first 100 visitors. It was well worth the early wake up. Richmond compost is the best in the area. It’s where our city stuff is transformed. Some of my favorite local Gardener’s swear by the stuff, myself included.
Over at Port Coquitlam garden club, we are pitching in this spring and getting a dump load of the smelly good stuff to spruce up our gardens. With this free bag though, I’m getting a head start!Global TV’s Tanya Beja was also there to talk about Port Coquitlam’s trash transformation with Mayor Greg Moore. And even I got a chance to talk compost with Tanya. I had a great time doing it. She made me feel calm and relaxed, which is pretty impressive as I was crazy nervous! If I can get a link to the feed I will post it in later for your viewing pleasure. Until then I suggest you get out there and hug your planet!
Happy Earth Week!

What a great initiative. I just heard a Vancouver city PSA about composing in the green bins as well. Yay for the GVA!
