My someday veggie beds, are someday no more! After a lot of hard work and determination, our Victoria Day long weekend project is complete.
I had a lot of help with this project. My tireless husband Michael,
slagged away ripping up the grass for these two 4 x 8 raised planters.
He is my muscle.
Sparing his pregnant wife from back breaking work.
He is a hero.
So out came the grass and weeds.
The soil, only laid a little over a year or so ago was in fabulous condition.
Teeming with worms and all sorts of creepy crawlies.
The local birds were impressed.
As was my daughter who ran off to get her bug collecting kit….
Out of the dirt,
the framing started.
Again, tirelessly working.
He built them,
and drove them into the earth.
Filled with a yard of lovely new compost,
I plotted and planned,
while my husband kept on labouring.
At the end of the weekend,
the rain started.
I was still able to plant the first bed.
6 tomato plant,
A couple rows of strawberries,
and a couple of pumpkins.
The second bed is built.
Ready to go except for the dirt.
The rain got too fierce,
so we had to leave the compost in the trailer.
To fill another day.
But as of today,
I’m growing veggies!
(I know you can’t hear it, but I’m giggling madly right now!)
